Where to fish? How to fish? When to fish?
Within one hour of our guest house by car, five river basins are easily accessible : Rio Gallego, Rio Cinca and its main tributary Rio Ara, Rio Aragon and Aragon Subordan.In Aragon, the trout season starts on the 1st 3rd Saturday of March and closes on the 31st of October (some river stretches may close at the end of August)Springtime : fishing can be good at midday, with good hatchesSummertime :
The most difficult period for fly fishing in Aragon, due to high day temperatures and low water levels, but the best time for some high altitude stretches : coto de Torla (upper Ara), and coto de (upper Aragon Subordan)Fall : probably the best period, with stable water levels on the Rio Gallego, a lot of dry fly activity, on hatches, or simply "fishing the water".
How to get a fishing licence in Aragon ? In Spain, each fisherman must hold a fishing licence for each region (Aragon, Navarra, Catalonia...), as there is no such thing as a nationwide fishing licence in this country. In addition, each fisherman has to carry a day ticket in order to to fish certain river stretches known as "cotos sociales", which are the best stretches for fishing. It is impossible by law for a non resident to get a coto social day ticket by himself. We provide day tickets to our guests, as we have been entitled with the permission to do this by the local government.
The autonomous government of Aragon and the fishermen's associations are jointly responsible for the management of the rivers and lakes. 95% of the rivers can be fished on a catch and release basis only.
